Method of preparation

Method of preparation

  1. Before preparing the recipe, soak the herring in cold water, preferably for about 2 hours. Change the water three times during this time, then rinse them thoroughly. If you prefer your herring to have a more salty taste, skip this point.
  2. Mix the mayonnaise with the cream and set aside.
  3. Finely dice herring and onion (herring coarsely, onion finely). Mix together.
  4. Season with lemon juice, mustard and pepper.
  5. Place the so-prepared and mixed ingredients in a bowl and cover with a layer of mayonnaise-cream mixture (about ⅓ the amount).
  6. Peel the cooked beetroot and potatoes and cut into cubes. Mix together. Season with salt and pepper and place as a layer in a bowl. Cover with a layer of mayonnaise and cream mixture.
  7. Dice the hard-boiled eggs and pickled cucumbers and mix together. Spread as another layer in a bowl and cover with a layer of mayonnaise/cream mixture.
  8. Sprinkle the top of the 'dumpling' with grated cheese.
